NPWA Annual Fire Hydrant Inspection and Flushing Program Scheduled

Written by Laura Office on . Posted in Front Page

Lansdale, Pa- March 29, 2017- During the week of April 2, 2017, the North Penn Water Authority (NPWA) will commence its annual fire hydrant inspection and flushing program which runs through May 21.  Annual inspection and flushing of fire hydrants increase public safety by ensuring that hydrants will function when called upon in the case of a fire.  Flushing of hydrants also improves water quality by removing the build-up of materials from the inside of water distribution pipes.

“The Authority is dedicated to providing all of our customers with quality drinking water and reliable fire protection which is why NPWA inspects and flushes all of the fire hydrants in our distribution system every year,” said Anthony J. Bellitto, Jr., Executive Director of North Penn Water Authority.

Flushing will take place at night between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and4:00 a.m.and during the day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The following is a tentative flushing schedule:

–           April 2 through April 19:   Lansdale, Hatfield and New Britain Boroughs, Hatfield and New Britain Townships

–          April 19 through May 14:  Skippack, Worcester, Lower Salford, Franconia, Salford and Towamencin Townships

–          May 7 through May 21:  Sellersville Borough

–          May 14 through May 21:  Souderton Borough, Hilltown and East Rockhill Townships

If water discoloration occurs, customers should run the cold water for a few minutes.  If the water does not clear up, customers should turn the tap off for 10 to 20 minutes and then run the water again for a few minutes.  Customers who experience persistent discolored water or reductions in water pressure should call the Authority’s Customer Service Department at 215-855-3617 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Approximately 100 volunteers gathered on Saturday April 22th to participate in the community clean up.

Earth dayEarth Day began in 1970 to create awareness for the Earth’s environment. Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22.

Souderton Borough volunteers worked together on Saturday April 22, 2017 in the Souderton Community Park, the Souderton Pool, the Main Street Plaza and along Front St adjacent to the railroad tracks. Volunteers helped beautify the town by raking leaves, picking up trash, weeding the beds, spreading mulch and planting many flowers to enhance the community for upcoming gatherings.

The event started at 9 am with volunteers being treated to coffee donated by The Broad Street Grind in Souderton and donuts donated by Landis Markets in Telford.  After working hard from 9 am to 12 noon volunteers were treated to lunch.  Served for lunch was pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, and beverages.  The food was donated by Jesse’s Barbecue and Local Market of Souderton and beverages were donated by Jim and Martha Leary of Souderton.

Several groups volunteered including CAL sports of Harleysville, Boy Scout Trooops 14/137/256 and 401, IV & Souderton Democrats, Univest,  and Zwingli UCC. In addition to the groups of volunteers there were several local residents, borough staff and borough councilors

The Borough would like to say thank you to the many volunteers for their hard work in making the town look so great. A special thank you to The Broad Street Grind, Landis Markets, Jesse’s Barbecue and Local Market, and Jim and Martha Leary for their gifts of great food and drinks.
